  • It comes together quickly, and then is a set it and forget it kind of recipe.

What ingredients you need to make the best venison slow cooker or crockpot Mississippi pot roast:

  • 5 lb Venison Roast
    1 oz Ranch Packet
  • Onion Soup Packet OR Homemade Gluten-Free Onion Soup Mix (instructions in the recipe description below)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 10 or more pepperoncini peppers
  • 1/4 cup pepperoncini juice
  • Cooking Oil – to sear the outside of the roast.

How do you make venison Mississippi pot roast in the slow cooker?

  • Heat a large skillet on medium-high heat with cooking oil, you just need enough to coat the bottom of the skillet. 
  • Sear the outside of the roast until golden brown all over.
  • Add the venison roast directly into the slow cooker.
  • Add the ranch packet and onion soup mix on top of the roast.
  • Cut up the butter into tabs, add the butter, peppers, and pepper juice.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours or HIGH for 6-7 hours. Do not open the lid while the roast cooks.

TIP: When the meat is done, it should fall apart/be able to shred with a fork. If it does not, cook the roast longer

  • Shred with two forks in the slow cooker. 
  • Serve as a roast, or as desired. It is great on it’s own with a side of your favorite vegetables. Or add the roast, juice and pepperoncini on top of mashed potatoes. Make sandwiches or tacos with the meat.

Ingredients

  • 5 lb Venison Roast (thawed)
  • 1 oz Ranch Packet
  • 1 Packet Onion Soup Mix See recipe notes below for Homemade Gluten-Free Onion Soup Mix recipe
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter or 1 stick
  • 10 or more pepperoncini peppers from jar. (depends on how tangy you want it)
  • 1/2 cup pepperoncini juice from the jar of pepperoncini peppers
  • Cooking Oil (Avocado Oil) just enough to coat the bottom of skillet to sear the outside of the roast

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet on medium-high heat with cooking oil, you just need enough to coat the bottom of the skillet. 

  2. Sear the outside of the roast until golden brown all over.

  3. Add the venison roast directly into the slow cooker.

  4. Add the ranch packet and onion soup mix on top of the roast.

  5. Cut up the butter into tabs.

  6. Add the butter, peppers, and pepper juice on top of the roast.

  7. Cover (add the lid to the slow cooker) and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours or HIGH for 6-7 hours. Do not open the lid while the roast cooks. (When the meat is done, it should fall apart/be able to shred. If it does not, cook the roast longer)

  8. Shred the roast with two forks directly in the slow cooker. 

  9. Serve as a roast if desired. It is great as is with a side of your favorite vegetables. Or add the roast, juice, and pepperoncini on top of mashed potatoes. Make sandwiches or tacos with the meat.

Recipe Notes

Gluten-Free Homemade Onion Soup Mix Recipe:

Use in place of Onion Soup Mix Packet, like Lipton. 

Ingredients:

  • 4 tsp gluten-free beef bullion powder
  • 2 Tbs Dried Minced Onion
  • 1/4 tsp Dried parsley
  • 1/8 Celery Seed
  • 1/8 tsp Sweet paprika
  • 1/8 tsp Black Pepper 

Directions:

  • Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Mix until combined.
  • Use in place of Lipton Packet.
